PS Vita Release Date Confirmed: 2011 in Japan, 2012 in Europe and North America!

September 1st, 2011 Posted in Playstation Vita, PS Vita, PSP Vita, PSV, Release Date | No Comments »

This is the latest news regarding the release dates of Sony’s Playstation Vita (PS Vita, PSV, PSP Vita), and it’s OFFICIAL this time, no more rumors! Kaz Hirai, Sony’s Executive Vice President just made the announcement in Japan. It is now confirmed that PS Vita will hit stores in Japan just in time for Christmas 2011, while the device will only hit stores in Europe and North America in 2012. It is expected to be in ‘early’ 2012 for Europe and North America, probably in January or February. This, of course, invalidates earlier rumors we have just about a week ago that PS Vita will be launched in UK on October 28th, 2011.

It’s kind of sad though that you won’t be able to get a PS Vita as a present for Christmas this year unless you live in Japan, or have someone in Japan to get the console for you before Christmas (the console is reported to be region-free!). However, Sony promised a phased global rollout starting late this year, starting with Japan, before shifting out to Europe and North America, though they still haven’t stated the exact date for Europe and North America release.

Just a few days ago, Sony also confirmed that PS Vita will be able to be used as a controller, just like Nintendo Wii U’s fancy controller, for PS3. Europe’s Sony Computer Entertainment R&D manager, Phil Rogers claimed that PS3 can send data to PS Vita and Vita will be able to display it, and this enables PS Vita to act as a controller for PS3. Not only that the announcement makes Vita more appealing, but it also seems to crush Nintendo’s selling points for their upcoming Wii U. I actually kind of feel bad for Nintendo now that they’ve lost their selling points for Wii U long before the gaming console itself is released.

On other note, Playstation Vita will also be compatible with Playstation Suite, Sony’s upcoming framework that enables downloadable PlayStation content. PSP Vita, as well as other Sony devices that meet ‘Playstation Certified’ requirements will be able to handle Playstation Suite contents.
If you enjoy using and playing your PSP there’s a lot more to expect from the makers of PSP that will bring you all the excitement, fun and thrill in playing your favorite game.
