If you thought the era of portable gaming consoles was over, think again. Sony’s NGP (Next Generation Portable) – the successor to the widely-acclaimed PSP – is about to hit the stores later this year, and it’s sure to make quite a lot of heads turn.
So what does this new portable have to boast? Right off the bat, Sony has improvised on the single PSP analog stick by adding a second one to make your gaming experience a mind-blowing one. Talking about gaming experiences, we’re sure the 5-inch OLED touchscreen will only add to your visual delight with 4 times the resolution of PSP’s. As if that wasn’t enough, this baby comes equipped with a state-of-the-art quad-core processor that comfortably guarantees four-to-five hours of uninterrupted play.
If you felt your fingers at the back of the PSP were idle and could be put to better use, the NGP will give you that chance. Boasting a touch-sensitive back, the NGP will let you use those idle fingers for more dynamic gameplay. We could expect a whole genre of games based on this feature. The NGP also comes with twin cameras as well as 3G and Wi-Fi support for online gaming. Need to play those old games? Playstation Suite, Sony’s Android App, will let you download old emulated Playstation games.
Although Sony is yet to make an official statement on the price and release date of this gorgeous model, leaked snapshots from a GameStop employee indicate a PSP2 price tag of $299.99 and a PSP2 release date of January 1st, 2012. This information ties with Sony’s previous statements of the NGP being an affordable model, and a release date near the end of the year. We guess you all know what you’re going to want as a late Christmas present this year!
